Culture bid is fantastic news

What fantastic news that Leicester is bidding to be the 2017 City of Culture ("Celebrating our culture", Mercury February 26).

Leicester is a vibrant and diverse city with a surprisingly low profile nationally.

An initiative such as this should deservedly raise people's awareness of what a great city and county we have.

The word "culture" involves much more than the arts and this is a real opportunity to show what, and who, we have in Leicester.

Congratulations to all involved in making this bid.
