LEICESTERSHIRE POLICE UPDATE, 26 MAY 2013

Dear George Ballentyne,

On the fourth day following the events in Woolwich we are very pleased to tell you that there have been no local incidents which may be related to the tragic death of Drummer Lee Rigby.

It’s reassuring to report that the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland remain calm and there has been no significant incident or activity since our last update.  It really is an indication of how strong our community relations are.

You may be aware that there was a gathering in Leicester yesterday by the Clock Tower by approximately fifty people who walked to the memorial at the Town Hall to pay their respects to the fallen soldier. This was a very low key and peaceful event.

Local officers are still working in their neighborhoods across the bank holiday weekend, linking in with faith groups and partners, listening to concerns of our communities and to give reassurance.

There is still no intelligence to suggest there will be a negative reaction locally to events in London but we will continue to monitor this and will update you of any developments. Similarly, if anyone in your community has any information and concerns they can help us in our efforts by calling 101.

Once again, thank you for your help and assistance over the past few days. The people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are very proud of the excellent community relations and the respect we have for different cultures, communities and religious beliefs and the vast majority clearly want this to continue.

Rob Nixon
Chief Superintendent
Leicester City BCU Commander

  1. Dear Mr Nixon
Sir I find it so hard to keep quite on this matter as I dont agree with what you have just said ,there was a big incident at bede island park jus a day before you send this post . I was racially abused ,my english gal was beaten up for going out with black man ,many kurds and diff asian migrants wer racially and phisically abused ,a 7 yr old black kid was ruthlesly thrown to the ground all this being done in front of many many innocent ppl including children at bede island all by some serious extremists racists ,who seems to have been knowing what they wer doing ,prompting us to ask whether they have been send to cause unnecsarry harvoc and to hurt a black person in retaliation of the messed up woolwich issue . Everyone in ln leic knows how a fantastic place bede island is for migrants . The dae of the fight I myself called the police and they did not come until we took law into our own hands for self defence reasons ,and wen your cops came they arrested me and my frends one of them who was broke his finger by this racists or ppl who your gov sends ,u can choose which one . I was banned to go to bede island for some days by your cops yet the idiots who abused us are seen roaming the streets with big fat smiles on their faces and us we are emotionaly and spiritually damaged . The truth is no one is safe and your police cant do nothing ,. And thats a shame ,because if cops and leaders cant protect the well being of the society then they are not doing their duty for queen and country . Matters should be dealt with accordingly ,not sweeping them under the carpet ,you should name and shame the culprits who get caught uo tryn to insist or create racial or religious tensions .
