COMMITMENT TO EQUALITY RESTATED

This article appears in today's Leicester Mercury (but not on its website):
Commitment to equality restated
Civic leaders are to reaffirm their commitment to equality.
City Council leaders will meet at the Town Hall tomorrow to sign up to a range of actions designed to tackle inequality and celebrate Leicester's rich cultural mix.
Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said the new strategy would demonstrate the council's commitment to putting equality issues at the centre of all its work.
"We are rightly proud of, and celebrate, our city's diversity - and it's important we build on Leicester's strong reputation as a city where people from many different backgrounds live and work together," he said.
"This strategy will allow us to do that, by ensuring we consider the needs of our diverse population when we are making decisions about the services we provide."
Assistant Mayor Manjula Sood, who has responsibility for equality, said: "This strategy demonstrates how the council will put equality issues at the heart of what we do."
