CHRISTIANS ARE UNDER ATTACK AND HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DEFEND THEIR FAITH

Christians are under attack and have every right to defend their faith
In his letter "Spare me from these zealots" (Mailbox, June 7), J B Hill complains that we "Godbotherers" are annoying him by stating our case and beliefs.
I do agree with him that quoting from the Bible or any other volume of sacred law to a committed atheist is rather a time waste.
However, he goes on to ask that we refrain from employing that freedom that this country has, and is, fighting wars over – the right to freedom of expression.
If you really want to find the causation of this public exchange between believers and non-believers, look toward the Leicester Secular Society and their associated humanist organisation.
They are actively seeking to oppress religion both locally and nationally.
At this very time, they are engaged in a national action to get prayers at council meetings banned. Who knows what else they have planned?
There, Mr Hill, is the cause of us believers feeling the need to overtly defend ourselves, as no doubt you would if your core values were being attacked.
I absolutely defend the right of anyone to respectfully deny the existence of God, but, Mr Hill, to use derogatory language about religion, then expect believers to refrain from defending their beliefs via the Leicester Mercury (who I am sure are quite capable of judging when the time is right for a topic change) is similar to a deluded king standing on the beach and ordering the sea back. Not much success there either.
Stephen A Warden, Wigston
